Charlaine and I became friends in Mrs. Klauss' 12th grade English class. Mrs. Klauss gave assignments such as "write an ironic essay" - certainly not the standard "what I did last summer" pieces. (I would love to be able to tell Mrs. Klauss how much she inspired me - but I have no idea how to reach her, or even if she is still alive. She was, by far, the most remarkable teacher I ever had.)
Anyway, Charlaine and I both loved the class and became friends. Once we were invited by Mrs. Klauss to her home, where we met her two Siamese cats.
Charlaine was bright and interesting. I loved her company, though for the most part, we lost contact after high school. A few years ago, we communicated briefly by email. She had married a mathematician (my field.)
I am sorry she is gone. Charlaine was a great lady.
