Ralph and I never spoke. He probably did not know who I was. Yet, I have remembered him all my life.

Each day, in the 5-10 minutes before class, Ralph was at the blackboard, chalk in hand, creating yet another very interesting and creative Cartoon/Caricature. Before the teacher entered the room, all blackboards were filled with his creation du jour. The daily artistic creations quickly flowed from his fingertips without pause… like the smooth and determined flow of a major river.

The teacher, upon entering the room, would then quickly erase Ralph’s creation from all the blackboards without observation or comment. I do not recall any observations or comments from other students either… But, I was always so very impressed… And I have remembered him for that all my life.

Sincere condolences to family and friends on the loss of a truly brilliant man.  We were classmates from elementary school through our years at Mumford.  RIP

Over the years I had several opportunities to talk to Ralph when he referred patients for a consultatoin. You can tell a lot about the character of a doctor by the affection, confidence,  and respect their patients express. , Ralph always got high marks.
Upon reading about his passing on the Mumford website I learned he also had his law degree and was wise real estate investor.including hotels in Charlevoix.  Remarkable. RIP Ralph.

Thanks Michael for providing us the opportunity to revisit with old friends, even in their passing.

I knew Ralph pretty well since both of us did cartoons for the Mumford paper. Ralph was terrifically talented and all my interactions with him reinforced my understanding of him during those wonderful, youthful years at Mumford. I am not the least surprised that he became an excellent and well respected physician.

Ralph Sachs & I were friends for life, beginning at Hally Elementary. We were also in Boy Scouts back then. At Mumford, we double-dated several times with different girls. At several '57 reunions, I stayed at his mansion near Palmer Park. Once with my daughter Angie and a few times with my wife, Suzanne. I admired Ralph for many reasons: his art, professional and business accomplishments, sense of humor, and especially his eccentricities. I'll never forget Ralph and miss his friendship.
