Comments:

I am the founder and owner of The Dorfman Chapel. The Dorfman name has symbolized caring and dignity in metro Detroit for many years. My father, Harry, ran the Dorfman Drug Store in Detroit for more than three decades.
I began my mortuary career as an apprentice with the William R. Hamilton Funeral Home in Birmingham. I remained with Hamilton until the Hebrew Memorial Chapel offered me a job. I headed the Hebrew Memorial Chapel for over 20 years before I left to open my own. In 1991, he founded the Alan H. Dorfman Funeral Direction, which focused on providing Jewish families graveside services, a lower cost alternative to the traditional chapel service. The business grew year after year until the Berkley location was too small for its needs.
My son, Jonathan, and I dreamed of opening our own funeral home together. We found a location in Farmington Hills, which was perfect for us because we determined this city to be the epicenter of metro Detro's Jewish Population. When the Dorfman Chapel opened in 2001, it became the first new Jewish Funeral Home in metro Detroit in over 35 years.
After graduating from Mumford High School I attended the Detroit Institute of Technology. I received my Mortuary Science degree from Woirsham College in the Chicago area. I received an award for restorative art. I am licensed in mortuary science in all 50 states.
My wife Stephanie is a teacher at West Bloomfield High School. She has kept active in the community by teaching in numerous Jewish religious schools, as well as supporting charities.
In addition to our son Jonathan, the we have two daughters, Lauren and Heather(married to Mike an Sue Salesin's son, Lowell), and now have eleven grandchildren.
