Mel and I had a good friendly elationship during and for many years after highschool.
Always enjoyed seeing him at the many simchahs' with his orchestra and enjoyed giving each other an up to date.
Tragic how his life ended years ago when arrested and put in jail for no reason. He argued with the police he was going home from a gig downtown and had to stop to change his tire on the freeway. As I understand (could be wrong) they didn't accept his answers and put him in jail where he was beaten by inmates and never recovered. Imagine him being in a dinner jacket and placed in the large single jail cell with many others waiting for their turn in court.
